2016 Family Treasures/Famous Family Recipes Essay Competition

 

The Family Treasures and Famous Family Recipes Contests will be combined for the year 2015-16. Rules and guidelines for each contest can be found under the appropriate tab under Essay Contests in the menu to the left. 
 
Submissions of both stories or recipes will be accepted under the one contest. There will be one set of prizes awarded.

General Information

  • Competition is open to Cycle 3 (Grades 5 and 6 ) students as well as Secondary 1 and 2 students (Grade 7 and 8).

  • Cycle 3 essays are to be 250 words, Secondary 1 and 2 are to be 450 words.

  • Submissions are to be typed and sent by teachers or Home and School to QFHSA office.

  • Essays are also to be submitted electronically to: Family_treasures@qfhsa.org

  • Competition commences on Family Literacy Day, January 27, 2016.

  • Competition will close and all submissions are to be in by April 1, 2016.

  • Winners will be announced on May 6, 2016.

  • Prizes:

    • 1st Prize Winners will receive a $100.00 Chapters gift certificate plus a $100.00 Chapters Gift Certificate will be presented to the classroom of the winner for the purchase of books.

    • 2nd Prize Winners will receive $50.00 Chapters gift certificate plus a $50.00 Chapters Gift Certificate will be presented to the classroom of the winner for the purchase of books.

    • The winning submissions will be printed in the SUMMER issue of the QFHSA NEWS and posted to the QFHSA website.

  • All entrants will receive a “Certificate of Participation” from QFHSA.

  • If numbers permit, a collection of the submitted essays will be published and a complimentary copy will be sent to every entrant and a copy to all participating school libraries.

  •  Registration forms are required to include the following information:

    • Name of School
    • Name of Teacher and subject (eg. History , English Language Arts, Religion and Culture)
    • Contact information of teacher
    • Name and mailing address of students
    • Age
    • Grade
    • Classroom number
    • Photo or drawing of the Family Treasure/Recipe (optional)
